Holmsland Hotspot
A new meeting place for locals and visitors. For generations, the car park at Brugsen (the supermarket) has been a natural place to meet. Now Brugsen has moved out of Kloster, so we need a new one.

Status: fundraising under way
DKK 4.825 million of DKK 9.65 million
Ny Carlsbergfondet (DKK 3,446,000) and Realdania (DKK 1,379,000) are funding 50% of the budget, but only if the rest is found. The remaining money must come from private foundations, and a fundraising group has been set up. Source: holmsland.dk/hotspot, last updated 10 March 2026.
Do you have experience with fundraising? Then the project could surely use your help.
What will it be used for?
Holmsland Hotspot is meant to be used for many things and by people of all ages. It is first and foremost for locals, but tourists and visitors are welcome.
More life for Brugsen
If the activities also draw tourists, Brugsen gets more customers and can stock more goods on its shelves. It might even bring new shops and jobs.
More room for the surfers
Kloster Surfspot is a few hundred metres from Holmsland Hotspot. There is not enough room there, and that bothers both tourists and locals. Hotspot can give the surfers better conditions right next door.

The artist team explains
The illustrations were made by visual artist Mette Winckelmann together with the architects Sophie Sahlqvist and Martin Winther. The final design will be worked out jointly by the artist team and the local project group.
Stedet Tæller X
Holmsland Hotspot grew out of the Stedet Tæller X competition, launched by Realdania and Ny Carlsbergfondet. The presentation video was made by the foundations.
Frequently asked questions
Won’t the artwork block the view of Brugsen?
The artwork is designed so that Brugsen can still be seen from the main road, so the shop does not lose a large customer base of passers-by. The chair of Holmsland Brugsforening sat on the judging panel, and Brugsen’s manager has been involved as a consultant.
When will it be finished?
First, DKK 9.65 million has to be raised. Once that is in place, construction begins. We hope it can be inaugurated in 2027.
Where does the money come from?
The DKK 9.65 million must come from private foundations. A fundraising group has been set up.
Organisation
A local steering group with representatives from Holmsland Brugsforening and Holmsland Sogneforening (project owners) and Holmsland Udvikling ApS (landowner) has overall responsibility. The project manager is architect Martin Winther, and the client adviser is Niras.
The steering group’s names and contact details are on the current site; private phone numbers and email addresses have been left out of the concept. Contact the project at hotspot@holmsland.dk.
