Move here

Room for more on Holmsland.

People usually settle on Holmsland because it is in the countryside, surrounded by nature, and yet only 10–15 minutes from Ringkøbing.

The sky over Kloster is drawn according to the time of day.

How we welcome you

The community association has a team of welcome ambassadors. They visit new neighbours.

They bring a gift card for Brugsen (the supermarket) and a welcome leaflet. The leaflet is also available in German and English.

The community association’s first aim: Holmsland should be a good place to live, to make a life and to move to.

What most people ask about

Children: childcare and school

Holmsland Børnehus in Kloster has a nursery and a kindergarten. There are about 15 children in the nursery and just under 40 in the kindergarten.

Holmsland Skole is also in Kloster. It has about 75 pupils from reception class (year 0) to year 6. After that, most go on to Ringkøbing Skole and a few to Hvide Sande.

In the annual well-being surveys, Holmsland Skole usually scores 100%, according to the community association.

According to holmsland.dk, a new childcare centre was to be built next to the school in autumn 2025. Once it is finished, the nursery and kindergarten will be together again.

Everyday life and transport

Brugsen has most things. You can also collect your online orders there. Ringkøbing is 10–15 minutes away. Herning and Holstebro are about 45 minutes away.

Buses 580 and 581 stop in Kloster in the morning and afternoon. The shared car Byens Bil is parked at Brugsen. The community association’s cargo bike is kept at the school.

Nature right outside your door

Holmsland lies between Stadil Fjord, Ringkøbing Fjord and the North Sea.

Kloster Surfspot is a few hundred metres from Holmsland Hotspot. Holmsland.dk calls it one of northern Europe’s best spots for kitesurfers.

Community

There is drive and togetherness here. There are more than 40 entrepreneurs and self-employed people.

Club life is very active. People are happy to make an extra effort so that newcomers feel welcome. Every Tuesday there is a community dinner at the culture centre.

Housing

Time on the market is short. You get a lot for your money, according to the community association.

Language and new friends

In 2019 Ugeavisen wrote about Café “Velkommen Her”. It is a language café in Kloster. Here, retired teachers help adult newcomers with their Danish.
